From Housekeeping to Nursing Assistant: Ms. Amoy’s Journey

For Ms. Amoy, becoming a Nursing Assistant was not something that happened overnight. It was the result of years of determination, learning and a belief that she could achieve whatever goal she sets her mind to.

Her interest in caring for others began when a friend encouraged her to enroll in an elderly care health aide course at UCCI. She completed the course and quickly realised that she wanted to learn more.
“I was very interested in it,” she says. “It made me feel comfortable knowing that I could care for people when they needed me.”

That three-month course became the beginning of something much bigger. Ms. Amoy continued her education through additional courses, including online training, earning certificates along the way. She kept each certificate at home, unsure where the knowledge and qualifications might eventually lead her.
Then, an opportunity presented itself.

While working at Doctors Hospital, where she has now been for seven years, the hospital announced that it was looking for an in-house Nursing Assistant, she applied.

Doctors Hospital offered Ms. Amoy the Nursing Assistant role, and now as of August 2026, Ms. Amoy now joins Doctors Hospital’s team of nurses as a Nursing Assistant.

For her, the journey from housekeeping to patient care is a reminder that where you start, can look a lot different than where you finish depending on the goals you set for yourself.

“I’m happy for this opportunity,” she says. “You should never tell yourself that you can’t do it.”
Her ambition does not end with becoming a Nursing Assistant. She hopes that one day, the next step in her journey will be becoming a Registered Nurse.

Her message to anyone who may doubt themselves is simple: do not look down on yourself. Be determined, keep learning and work towards making your goals a reality.

“From a housekeeper to a Nursing Assistant, and next from a Nursing Assistant to a nurse,” she says. “We can do it. Through Christ, we can do all things through His strength in us.”

Ms. Amoy’s story is a testament to what can happen when determination meets opportunity— and when you refuse to put a limit on what you can become.
