Doctors Hospital Launches Apprenticeship Programme to Grow Cayman’s Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals

New two-year pathway offers young Caymanians hands-on training, formal coursework and a direct route into long-term diverse careers in the healthcare industry

Doctors Hospital today announced the launch of a new Apprenticeship Programme, a structured two-year pathway designed to give young Caymanians and aspiring healthcare professionals practical, hands-on experience and a genuine route into long-term careers in the industry.

The initiative reflects Doctors Hospital’s ongoing commitment to investing in local talent and ensuring that Caymanians are equipped to lead the next chapter of the island’s healthcare sector, working alongside the hospital’s existing team of dedicated local and international professionals.

In a hospital environment, there are many specialist clinical roles but also a diverse array of non-clinical or support roles. The three (3) roles targeted in this initial apprenticeship programme are support roles.

A Structured Pathway Into Healthcare

The two-year programme blends formal professional development coursework with supervised, on-the-job learning, giving apprentices practical exposure to healthcare operations, administration and support services. Delivered across four progressive six-month phases, the programme is designed to build both professional and technical skills in a real-world hospital environment.

The inaugural cohort will offer placements across three departments: Marketing & Business Development, Supply Chain Management, and Information Technology, reflecting the breadth of career paths that support world-class patient care beyond the clinical setting.

No previous work experience is required. Candidates must have a minimum of a High School Diploma Level 2 or equivalent, however an Associatie’s Degree is preferred. Candidates must have a strong willingness to learn and develop professionally, along with a commitment to completing the full two-year programme. Only Caymanians and those with RERC will be considered for this programme.

Apprentices will be full-time employees of Doctors Hospital for the duration of the programme, receiving wages and benefits consistent with DH employment policies, and will be expected to meet the same standards of performance, attendance and professional conduct as the wider team.

Growing Cayman’s Own

Sharing her thoughts on the launch of the programme, Doctors Hospital and Integra Healthcare CEO, Dr. Margo McCrae offered:

“Doctors Hospital has always believed in the importance of investing in people, and this programme is a natural extension of that commitment. We want to give the next generation an opportunity to see what a career in healthcare can look like and, more importantly, to give them the support to build one. Through training, mentorship and hands-on experience, we’re creating a pathway where people can learn, grow and develop the skills they need to build a future with us and within healthcare.”

Director of Human Resources and career-development pioneer, Mario Ebanks has always been a long-time believer in building local Caymanian talent.

“Investing in our own people is one of the most important things we can do for the future of healthcare in Cayman. This programme reflects our belief that talent is grown, not just hired. We want to open the door to Caymanians who may not have previously considered the diversity of choice in a career in healthcare, and give them the structure, support and real-world experience to thrive here at Doctors Hospital and across the industry.”

Applications are now open and full details about the program can be found at: doctorshospital.ky
