Doctors Hospital Celebrates Excellence That Endures: 25th Anniversary

Doctors Hospital, in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, proudly hosted a special Business After Hours event on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, commemorating 25 years of exceptional, patient-centered care in the Cayman Islands. Over 250 members of Cayman’s vibrant business and healthcare communities gathered on the scenic lawn of Doctors Hospital to mark the milestone and celebrate a legacy built on innovation, trust, and compassion.

Laughter and conversation flowed freely, with guests mingling beneath swaying palms as the
sun set. The event felt more like a family reunion than a formal gathering—fitting for a hospital
that has been such a vital part of Caymanian life.

The evening featured a brief but heartfelt program with remarks from several distinguished guests and leaders who have been pivotal in shaping the hospital’s journey.

Chamber President Omari Corbin opened the remarks by sharing a personal story.

“When my wife delivered our baby at Doctors Hospital in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw firsthand what this institution means to Cayman,” said Corbin. “They didn’t just provide care—they gave us comfort, hope, and assurance in the most uncertain of times. We are grateful as a community for what Dr. Tomlinson’s vision and the continued commitment of the leadership at the hospital has meant for the quality of care on this Island”.

Founder and Cayman healthcare pioneer Dr. Steve A. Tomlinson reflected on the journey that began over six decades ago. He recalled that since he was 4 years of age, he had always been inspired to pursue medicine. With partial credit going to his grandmother Almira Tomlinson who single-handedly delivered over 700 babies in her time as a midwife across the Islands, and grandfather who although not officially qualified, was the go-to fixer of broken bones, wounds and more in the Brac for decades.

“When we opened our doors 25 years ago, we weren’t just building a hospital—we were building a vision for what healthcare in Cayman could be and for the community. Today, I’m proud to see that vision realized and carried forward with such passion and purpose. I am proud and humbled to see an institution that has maintained integrity and quality while growing so fast.”

Chairman of the Board Dr. med Yaron Rado highlighted the hospital’s unwavering dedication to clinical advancement and services. He recalled how from the beginning, the mission has always been to provide cutting-edge care with a human touch.

“This celebration is not just about the past—it’s about our continued promise to lead the future of medicine in Cayman. This hospital is, in many ways, a reflection of my life’s work. And I know I speak for everyone who has ever worn a Doctors Hospital badge when I say — this place means something special. Not just as a workplace, but as a family. To my colleagues — past and present — thank you for your devotion. To our patients — thank you for your trust. And to our Caymanian community — thank you for letting us be part of your lives for 25 years.”

David E. Pellow, Chief Pharmacist, Director of Ancillary and Support Services, and Vice Chairman of the Board, emphasized the collaborative spirit that defines Doctors Hospital.

“We are only as strong as the people who make up our hospital family. This 25-year legacy is a tribute to every physician, technician, nurse, and support team member who has walked our halls and touched lives with compassion.This place is more than a hospital to me. It’s been a second home, a place of purpose, and a place where I’ve grown alongside some of the most committed people I’ve ever known. To our community: thank you for trusting us for 25 years. I’m proud of the past. I’m excited for the future. And I’m honored to be part of it.” He thanked his fellow team members for every extra hour they put in, every moment of care, and the Hospital’s patients for letting Doctors Hospital to be part of their health journeys.

A central highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, which read:

As the sun set over Middle Road, guests mingled, shared stories, and toasted to a healthcare institution that has become a trusted cornerstone of the Cayman community.
