Doctors Hospital and Integra Healthcare at the Cayman Islands Healthcare Conference 2025: Healthy People. Healthy Planet. A Call to Action for Sustainable Healthcare
Two of our physicians— Dr. Seshadri Pramodh, Consultant Endocrinologist at Integra Healthcare, and Dr. David Kwinter, Family Medicine and Urgent Care Physician at Doctors Hospital — were featured speakers at the 2025 Cayman Islands Healthcare Conference, held under the theme “Healthy People. Healthy Planet. A Call to Action for Sustainable Healthcare.”
Both presentations explored the urgent need for a more connected, preventive, and sustainable approach to healthcare — one that recognises the inextricable link between human health and the health of our planet.
Dr. Seshadri Pramodh: Intertwined Crisis — Metabolic Disease and Climate Change
In his thought-provoking session, “Intertwined Crisis: Metabolic Diseases and Climate Change,” Dr. Pramodh examined the shared roots of two global challenges — the rise of metabolic diseases such as obesity and Type 2 Diabetes, and the escalating effects of climate change.
“These are not separate issues,” he explained. “The way we produce, consume, and waste food harms both the planet and our bodies.”
He highlighted that global food systems contribute to around 30% of the world’s breaches of planetary boundaries, emphasizing the need for systemic transformation. A worldwide shift toward the planetary health diet — one that balances nutritional adequacy, cultural relevance, and environmental sustainability — could prevent up to 15 million deaths annually.
From a clinical perspective, Dr. Pramodh discussed modern strategies for managing obesity and Type 2 Diabetes through lifestyle modification, evidence-based medications such as GLP-1 analogues, and a renewed focus on preserving muscle mass to support long-term metabolic health.
“At Integra Healthcare, our goal is to treat the whole person, not just the disease,” he said. “By addressing the lifestyle and environmental factors behind metabolic illness, we can improve outcomes for individuals while contributing to a healthier planet.”
His endocrinology practice offers comprehensive care for diabetes, hormonal disorders, obesity, and lipid conditions, supported by advanced diagnostics and a multidisciplinary team approach.
Dr. David Kwinter: The Cornerstone of Health — Why Family Medicine Matters Most
Dr. David Kwinter’s presentation, “The Cornerstone of Health: Why Family Medicine Matters Most,” reinforced the theme of sustainability through prevention, continuity, and community-based care.
Drawing from his experience in both the U.S. and Canadian healthcare systems, Dr. Kwinter highlighted the growing prevalence of chronic diseases — from early-onset colon cancer to hypertension — and underscored how long-term relationships with a family physician can improve outcomes and reduce costs.
“Effective preventive medicine is required for the sustainability of any healthcare system.” he noted. “By focusing on healthy habits, consistent follow-up, and early intervention, we can reverse disease and preserve health for the long term.”
At Doctors Hospital, Dr. Kwinter and his team in Family Medicine and Urgent Care emphasize a holistic, evidence-based approach, empowering patients to take control of their wellness journeys.
Doctors Hospital: Speaker & Dinner Sponsor
As the Speaker and Dinner Sponsor for the conference, Doctors Hospital proudly supported an event that united healthcare professionals, policymakers, and innovators in advancing the future of sustainable care in the Cayman Islands.
Throughout the conference, the Doctors Hospital & Integra Healthcare booth served as a hub of conversation and collaboration. Designed to reflect the hospital’s commitment to comfort and care, the space featured a mix of lounge chairs, high-top tables, and bookshelves stocked with curated giveaways — from notebooks and pens to compression socks and hand sanitizers.
The team also hosted dedicated office hours, where physicians, administrative leaders, and specialty services staff met with attendees to share insights on preventive medicine, specialty care, and the hospital’s expanding capabilities. The relaxed setting invited meaningful discussion about how local healthcare providers can work together to create a healthier, more resilient community.
A Shared Vision for Sustainable Health
Both physicians exemplify the conference’s call to action: sustainable healthcare begins with prevention, education, and collaboration.
As Doctors Hospital & Integra Healthcare continue to work hand in hand, their shared mission is clear — to build a healthcare system that nurtures both human well-being and planetary health, ensuring a healthier future for the Cayman Islands and beyond.
