Sustainability in Action: Building a Greener Future
At Doctors Hospital, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a responsibility we take seriously. As a healthcare organisation, we know our environmental impact matters. That’s why we’ve set ambitious but achievable goals to reduce waste, conserve energy and water, and promote more sustainable practices throughout our operations.
Here’s what we’re doing in 2025 to make a difference and how you can help.
Recycling: Expanded and More Accessible
In January 2025, we significantly expanded our recycling efforts across all departments and public areas, thanks to support from our independent third-party provider. You’ll now find designated recycling stations for:
- Cardboard – By the dumpster
- Glass, Plastic, Aluminium Cans – Maple Road, near Pharmacy, Café, and at the dumpster
- Batteries & Printer Cartridges – Maple Road
Please recycle responsibly — your small effort makes a big impact.
Smart Energy Targets
We’ve committed to limiting our energy usage while maintaining the highest standard of care and service.
- Electricity usage per patient: No higher than 40 kWh per year
- Electricity usage per employee: Kept below 8,000 kWh/year, aiming for 7,500 kWh/year
We track this data closely and adjust our systems and equipment for better efficiency.
Water Conservation
We’ve pledged to ensure our total water consumption does not increase in 2025 — even as we grow. We’re reviewing our plumbing systems, staff education, and equipment choices to ensure we’re using water wisely.
Going Electric
In 2024, we installed EV charging points to support staff and visitors who use electric vehicles. It’s one of the many ways we’re supporting cleaner transportation choices.
Phasing Out CFCs
We’re actively working with our pharmacy team to phase out pharmaceutical items containing CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), which contribute to ozone depletion. This is part of a broader commitment to reduce harmful substances from our supply chain.
What You Can Do
- Recycle correctly using the bins provided
- Reduce and reuse wherever possible (e.g., bring a reusable bottle or cup!)
- Opt for digital communications when possible
- Choose walking, cycling, or EVs for short commutes
Together, we can make healthcare more sustainable one small step at a time.
